Continuing Rather Cold

Writer: Mike CMike C

The last week has been rather cold and essentially dry with the exception of today when some light snow showers fell across Bjorli. The stabil and rather cold conditions will continue through the first week of December with variable amounts of cloud and with either calm or light wind conditions through the first half of the week. The second half of the week will see a SE wind which may increase later and make it feel even colder. The emphasis is once again on mostly dry weather but there is the chance for a few light snow showers at times - especially around mid-week.

The winter has so far been very dry in Bjorli and this is also the case for the whole of western and northern Norway. With pressure quite high over Scandinavia and with the jet stream continuing to remain further south than normal, the air flow has largely been coming from the east. This pattern shows no sign of changing at any time soon and so any snowfall later next week will once again be in southern and eastern Norway.

The above ECM chart nicely shows how western and northern Norway will be between 10-60% drier than normal during the period December 4th -11th. In other words, December is projected to start how much of November was and that was both drier and colder than normal across much of western, central and northern Norway.

It's also worth mentioning that while the model data shows relatively high confidence in the prognosis for the first 7-8 days of December, confidence drastically falls beyond day 8. Stay tuned for additional updates as we edge ever closer to Christmas.
