2024 will begin with potentially strong winds from the SE which will continue to cause drifting of lying snow. New Year's Day will therefore be windy with partly cloudy or cloudy skies and with temperatures around -6°c. Tuesday will be similar to Monday with dry and partly cloudy skies and the temperature close to -10°c. Wednesday will see the temperature fall through the day and as the wind continues to die down, temperatures are likely to fall towards -30°c by late evening.

Thursday will be another dry day with a light breeze from the E. Variable cloud cover is expected and the temperature will be between -25°c and -35°c with the coldest temperature being likely with minimal cloud cover. Friday will see the temperature slowly rise and this brings the risk of some snow showers to end the working week.
Next weekend is likely to see a change in the pattern as High Pressure rises close the UK. There is very much uncertainty as to the alignment of this High Pressure but its exact location and orientation is very important as to what happens next in Bjorli. My early thoughts are steering towards a change to snowy weather but as stated above, confidence is very low at this stage. All model ensembles reflect this uncertainty with much day-to-day variability in the longer term prognosis. My next post will cover next weekend and into the following week and will likely be posted at the end of this week.
Wishing all our members and readers a very happy and healthy 2024!
