Strong Winds & Unsettled

Writer: Mike CMike C

Fresh snowfall and cold temperatures was the theme during the past week but things are all set to change as we move through Sunday. Winds will increase from the SE and will at times gust up to gale force which will cause much drifting of lying snow with reduced visibility. Temperatures will also continue to rise through Sunday and will likely edge just above freezing during the course of Monday. Monday will largely be cloudy with a little sleet or snow possible at times - though amounts will be very small. Heavy precipitation is expected from late evening and overnight into Tuesday which will fall as snow - albeit a wet snow. Tuesday will start snowy but winds would have become light with the temperature slowly falling through the day.

Wednesday will see another Low Pressure system pass to the south of Norway and this will bring some light snow over Bjorli on Wednesday but again, amounts will be small. Turning a little colder through both Wednesday and Thursday. The end of the week is expected to see some more snow with variable temperatures and some gusty winds at times. Always mild for the time of year but with the exception of Monday, temperatures should at least remain at or just below freezing for the most part.

Next weekend is looking quite uncertain to call with any confidence at this time. A ridge of High Pressure may bring a brief lull but the chance remains that the zonal Atlantic onslaught will resume into the following week. ECM wants to quieten things down for the weekend but the GFS mean ensemble chart for next Sunday shows that the changeable weather pattern is likely to continue into the new week.
