Dry and Quite Cold

Writer: Mike CMike C

The weather has been fairly quiet in the last week and this coming week will see the continuation of the dry and relatively cold weather across Bjorli. The SE'ly breeze will persist through the entire week which will keep things dry, frosty and calm but with some sunny periods during the shortening days. Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout with night temperatures between -10c and -16c (depending on cloud cover) and maximum temperatures between -3c and -5c.

Low Pressure Over The UK

The reason the weather is benign over Bjorli is because we have Low Pressure to the west of Britain and these systems will push east across the UK and with High Pressure further east, these systems will tend to stall close to Britain. Winds are likely to strengthen over the UK with stormy conditions possible later this week but with Bjorli being to the north of the trough, we continue with the dry and chilly SE'ly flow. An increasing SE wind is possible as we push into next weekend but any snowfall will once again remain to the E and S of Bjorli.

The chart below is today's 06z GFS panel for T+144 (next Saturday) and we can see that there is high confidence in the pattern as described above.

Halloween 2023 is therefore looking to be dry, calm and cold over Bjorli this year. October began unsettled with rain, sleet and snow but the second half of the month has been more settled and the dry theme will continue as we move into November.

Will the dry weather continue beyond next weekend? Find out in the next post...
