The weekend will start dry but periods of rain will push across the region and become more persistent throughout the evening. Temperatures will start mild but as cooler air begins moving in from the west, the rain will turn to sleet and then to snow. The timing is a little uncertain but I'm fairly confident that it will be snowing by late Saturday evening or shortly afterwards.
The westerly breeze will gradually veer northwesterly with some gusty conditions expected at times. The wet snow is then expected to become heavier through the early hours of Sunday and through much of Sunday itself. As temperatures continue to fall, several cms of fresh snow is expected. The higher mountains will have heavy snowfall and drifting throughout this weekend and so driving conditions will be very poor.
As the area of Low Pressure over northern Scandinavia continues to push eastwards, snow showers will slowly become lighter and less frequent by Sunday evening with temperatures falling away. An early look into next week shows the unsettled and variable theme continuing but there are some signs of pressure rising after midweek with some drier weather - along with colder temperatures. More on this, along with a update on this weekend's snow will be shared in a new post tomorrow evening.
