Saturday Snow

Writer: Mike CMike C

It's now early October and this Saturday will see the first snowfall over Bjorli as the autumn holiday gets underway.

The weather is now changing...

We've already seen the first snow falling over the tops and this weekend will see the first snow over Bjorli as the weather now changes into a cooler pattern with low pressure close by. Northwest winds will gradually bring colder air across the region and we'll see outbreaks of rain on Friday night turn to snow as that colder air digs in. This will be followed by snow showers on Saturday which may become more frequent and heavier for a time before dying away overnight into Sunday. I am expecting Bjorli's first temporary snowcover this weekend and so it may be a good idea to put on your winter tyres if you are planning on driving into Bjorli and further afield through the mountains.

The GFS 06z 850 hPa chart shows the -5c isotherm over Bjorli on Saturday and the PPN chart shows convective precipitation in areas exposed to the north and west in Møre og Romsdal and Trøndelag. The GEFS ensembles also show a high level of confidence and so it's looking fairly certain that we'll see some colder air with the first snow this weekend.

What about into next week?

Next week is looking more uncertain but the general theme will be unsettled with variable temperatures and episodes of rain, sleet and wet snow. Temperatures are also likely to dip several degrees below freezing under any lengthy periods of clear sky and so this means icy stretches can be expected at times. Autumn is characterised by variable weather conditions and in Bjorli, this means both rain and snow. October 2023 will begin no differently and so the autumn holiday this year will serve up a mixed bag of weather delights...
