Turning Much Colder

Writer: Mike CMike C

The last few days delivered about 80cm of snowfall in Bjorli but the coming week is set to return to the dry weather pattern which dominated through much of October and November.

We have northern blocking in place and with the jetstream being diverted way to our south, the wind will once again blow from between E and SE. This means largely dry weather for Bjorli but it will also mean that temperatures take a tumble as colder air pushes westwards across Scandinavia. Cloud cover will be variable through the week and at times could be thick enough to produce a few light snow showers or snow flurries but any amounts will be insignificant with the emphasis firmly being on mostly dry, calm and very frosty weather.

Temperatures will vary between -15°c and -20°c by day but if there are any lengthy clear spells, we can expect to see the mercury fall towards -28°c.

The extended weather outlook then becomes very uncertain as we head into the latter half of the weekend and into the new week. Some model output is suggesting a continuation of the largely blocked conditions but with subtle differences in that pressure may fall to the north and open the way for further snow as pressure remains high to the west of the UK. Both ECM and GFS ensembles do also show a few outcomes which awaken the Atlantic and so at this point in time, the prognosis is too uncertain to call. Be sure to stay tuned for the next update!
